More running in 2023
2023-01-18
Focusing on running more this year.
The goal is to hit a sub 30 minute 5K, then run some local 5K races throughout the year. A 5K in under 30 minutes means I have to run an average of 5:40 minute per km, or 9:30 minute per mile.
I tried for the sub 30 tempo run type thing today. Ended up doing 30:15 at around 6:03/km or 9:44/mi. Barely didn't get it, but is a PR. Right calf was getting really tight around the 3-4K mark so I slowed down the pace for the last 1000 meters or so. I think if I kept the pace and didn't slow down I would have gone under 30.
Planning to go with a weekly schedule going forward:
Monday - Easy run (also squat day)
Tuesday - Interval run (12x400, 4x1000, etc)
Wednesday - Easy run (deadlifts day)
Thursday - Either tempo run or fartlek depending on mood
Friday - Easy run (bench day)
Saturday - Long run
Sunday - Rest
Maybe not strictly following it yet. That's a lot of activity for the body to get used to, but will definitely stick to something like this for February.
I want new running shoes. A noob runner like me shouldn't be too concerned about this stuff, but it's kinda part of the hobby? If you can call it that. Been looking at the Adidas Boston 11. Supposedly a good go-to for recreational runners, though it's a bit polarizing in the running community. But it looks good. Adidas probably makes some of the nicest looking running shoes.
Testing embed in this post:
Spotify playlist embed seems to work. Getting it on the post is kind of clunky. It doesn't automatically set a size so it has to be done manually.
Playlist is what I listen to when I want cadence closer to my 5K goal. It's probably too fast but it's working for me at the moment.
