New PR

I picked up a heavy thing and put it back down.

Hit a deadlift PR the other day. 300lbs for... 1 rep. Feels good.

It's been an attempt I was honestly kind of scared to do, for some reason. I worked up to single lifts of 285lbs for weeks leading up to this one. I guess on that particular day I was feeling pretty good so I went for it.

I always do the big three (squat, bench, deadlift) in some form or another everytime I'm in the gym, but one is emphasized more than the other two, depending on the day.

Started with squat and quickly worked up to a 225x3 just to get it out of the way so I can deadlift. The original plan was to work up to 3 sets of 275x3. The first 275x3 went up pretty fast, surprisingly, so I went for a single 285 and felt confident with another rep. Was feeling juiced so I decided to end the deadlift set with a single 295, which would have been a new PR. Resting between the set the feeling to finally hit the 300 was too powerful, so I loaded the 2.5lbs plates and hoped for the best.

Actually took a minute to calm my nerves before the pull.

The weight moved faster than expected. Thought I had to grind that one out. Good to finally do it.

The music really helped on this one. Usually for heavy lifts like this, my go to track to hype me up is by Nogizaka:

BUT this time The Winking Owl was on heavy repeat, because of often it comes up on my running playlist. Such a good song.

Deadlift goal for the year is to consistently work up to a single 315lbs.

Let's get it.
